SETA Apprentices

Teenagers due to leave school this academic year had the chance to find out more about engineering apprenticeships with Exxon-Mobil at Fawley, D P World (Southampton) which runs the docks and Selex Sensors and Scottish and Southern Energy

More than 180 youngsters attended the event at SETA, a Briscoe PR client. SETA Chief Executive Richard Heighington said they were seeing the effect of higher education funding and fees with more young people looking for an alternative to college and university.

“The quality of the candidates coming to us for an apprenticeship will undoubtedly rise as more and more people decide college and university will be too expensive for them,” he said.

“We are delighted with the number of people that came to the open evening – there is a real hunger out there from young people who want to earn while they learn with an apprenticeship.”

The employers also gave the event a huge vote of confidence because it put them directly in touch with people who were interested in working in their areas of expertise.

Teenagers and their parents had the chance to find out how to secure an apprenticeship with an employer and also had the chance to look around the extensive workshops at SETA’s base in Millbrook.
