Media skills and presenting course date set

Hampshire businesses can learn how to make the most of the media to celebrate their successes and increase their sales with a course being run in Portsmouth next month.

Company bosses can learn how to write a media strategy, draft winning press releases and get themselves mentioned on the radio and TV at the course being run at the Marriott Hotel on April 28.

Hampshire PR company Briscoe PR has organised the day-long course for businesses and people who have got the job of writing press releases and don’t know where to start when it comes to getting media coverage.

Briscoe PR Director Kevin Briscoe, a former Portsmouth News journalist and head of communications for Hampshire Police, will lead the media relations side of the course. He is also a guest lecturer at Portsmouth University on journalism techniques and theories.

The course will include sessions on presenting and public speaking to represent your business led by Cathy Madavan from Briscoe PR who has spoken to conferences of thousands and lectures on communications at degree level. That will look at handling nerves and managing body language for successful business.

Kevin Briscoe said: “A lot of companies in and around Hampshire have a lot to shout about – new orders, winning contracts and major developments – but don’t know how to get in the newspaper or on the radio.

“We can show them how it is done and equip them with the skills to do it. Marketing a company and getting coverage in the media is a vital tool for business – it tells customers how successful the company is and drives new business through the door.

“Presenting yourself and your business is also extremely important – whether networking or speaking to an audience at an event. We can show people how they can be better at that too.”

The course will be held at the Marriott Hotel, Southampton Road, Cosham (just off J12 of the M27), on Wednesday April 28 from 9.30am to 4pm and will include lunch.

There is a maximum 20 places for the course which costs £125 +VAT for the day.

Briscoe PR moves to new riverside base near Fareham.

Public relations firm Briscoe PR has defied the economic downturn with a move to new and bigger offices on the outskirts of Fareham.

The firm has moved from its base in Swanwick to a new office on the banks of the River Hamble at Universal Marina at Sarisbury Green, near Fareham.

Director Kevin Briscoe said the credit crunch had brought challenges, but there were still many small to medium sized enterprises determined to use every tool in their armoury to fight the downturn including quality and value for money PR.

Briscoe PR counts the UK¹s leading air traffic control company NATS among its clients, along with the 2011 Census team at the Office for National Statistics in Titchfield.

Recent new clients include the Lemon Sole restaurant in Old Portsmouth and Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust..

“A lot of companies have been feeling the pinch in these difficult economic times, but those that will come out of this the strongest will be those that see the opportunities,” said Kevin Briscoe.

“If companies try to sit tight and wait for it all to end then they could become the latest statistic. Those that get out there, tell everyone what they are doing and promote themselves in the media and directly to their potential customers are the ones that will thrive.”

Briscoe PR is currently in its second year of trading having achieved steady growth since its incorporation in late 2007.
